Susanne Kim, JD
Susanne Starecki Kim is a Senior Deputy General Counsel at San Francisco Unified School District. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Berkeley and Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. As a daughter of refugees who fled Poland in 1969 due to anti-Semitism, and as an immigrant herself, she was raised to value education. After graduating college, she worked as an AmeriCorps member in a low-income high minority school, and pursued a career in law with the goal of improving public schools. For about ten years, she worked at Semple, Farrington and Everall, PC, an education law firm in Denver, Colorado, and handled cases ranging from employment discrimination to free speech. In 2016, she joined the Legal Department at SFUSD and provided advice and counsel on all special education matters impacting students from pre-school to high school at SFUSD. She had a commitment to collaborating with special education directors, school psychologists and teachers to serve the needs of all students. In January 2021, Susanne transitioned to serving as the Senior Deputy General Counsel for Business & Facilities. She provides advice and counsel to District leaders, including the Head of Policy and Operations, Head of Facilities, Head of Financial Services, Head of Special Education, and Head of Technology, on priorities that implicate legal and governance matters. She is committed to collaborating with District leaders to serve the needs of all students.
